This is a dining room set consisting of a table with a center leaf (not shown) and five chairs, all in black and mahogany stain with sky blue upholstery on the chairs.
From the style and the hardware, I would guess this dates to the 1920s--40s, and the table has "Italian Table" hand-written on the underside.
The chairs need some repair. They are built of four pieces held together with pegs, and the pegs are wearing out, coming loose, and made small splits in the wood under the seat in two chairs. As a result, three of the chairs are a bit wobbly (hence the rope), and two are too loose to realistically support a person's weight. You would need to either replace the pegs or (as the previous owner had done in one place), add a reinforcing bolt. This doesn't seem like an especially huge task, but the set was too large for my very small living-dining room, so I thought I'd try to find someone who would better appreciate this gem.
The table can be easily disassembled for transport. I am in Downtown Palo Alto.
