The program will focus on nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through the design, execution, and analysis of simple, engaging experiments. Instruction will be provided by myself and two of my close colleagues. All of us are parents, as well as seasoned scientists with years of combined biomedical research training and employment at Genentech, Harvard University, The Scripps Research Institute, Max Planck Institute, Academia Sinica, UC San Francisco, and UC Santa Cruz. We also plan to invite guest speakers, including professors and biotech researchers, to share their real-world experiences and offer attendees a glimpse into how science is practiced in both academia and industry. Tentative Program Overview: Ages: 8–10 Format: 4 sessions, each 2 hours, over a 2-week period Group Size: Small, to ensure personalized attention (limited space available) Cost: Will cover insurance, experiment supplies, and personal protective equipment Depending on interest, we are likely to expand and include additional sessions for other age groups in the near future. Our ultimate goal is to help children build early scientific thinking and inquiry skills. We believe these skillsets are more important than ever, especially given the current challenges misinformation poses to public understanding of science and its impact on research.
