Selling a solid, beautiful road bike from the 1960s. In basic, it has been around fifty years while maintaining its condition, which is a good predictor of not falling apart any time soon. It was originally hand-built from a good quality steel which has an extremely long fatigue life. I have fixed it up since I bought it and it runs solidly and is a remarkable commuter. Now, details:
The bike is likely appropriate for someone over 5'11". Sizes as something like a 58cm.
The bike is made by Carlton, a subsidiary of Raleigh that was known for hand-building frames and using some beautiful lugs on the tubing. This bike in particular uses butted Reynolds 531 tubing, which is a good grade of steel. Paint shows conservative wear for 50 years of age though does have a number of chips and scratches. Frame not rusting. 2x5 drivetrain with Williams cottered crankset and downtube shifters. 27 x 1 1/4" tires, a nice commuter size and balances comfort with speed; it is an old size but they carry tires and tubes for it at the campus bike shop at $15 and ~$6? respectively, which is cheap.
I can rewrap part of the handlebars with some modern bar tape I have lying around if you prefer.
Only noticed problems:
-Minor braking shudder on the front, as the front wheel does not true to perfection but is perfectly functional.
-Seat post has some surface scratching from post adjustments.
In basic it is cheaper than the bikes of any quality you can buy from any shops in the area and won't fall apart in a year like department store bikes and the cheap fixie and lifestyle bikes that are available, so if you need a solid bike to last you four years (or more), this should suit your needs.
