Description

We are two non-finance, non-econ people interested in basic finance and econ literacy, but don't have a lot of time to invest in rigorous study. =( We're looking to hire an econ undergrad, or an undergraduate with sufficient spare time and an interest in economics to research and answer some random finance / econ questions we have.

Most of these will be, here's a really long piece of reading that we don't have time to closely read, can you read it and summarize, for example:

  • Hortonworks and Cloudera's recent earning calls and 10K / 10Q
  • What does AppLovin/random company X actually do and why does its revenue figures look insane
  • Here are the proceedings of some lawsuits--please read and find out why the CDH / Palantir deal didn't go through

Some of these will be a discussion on economics/finance concepts and literature (we have a reading list, and are interested in getting a higher quality reading list).

  • How to think about stock options, how do they work as a financial instrument, tax implications, etc.
  • Financial implications of Bitcoin

Some of these will be us trying to get an understanding basic macro-economics:

  • how do interest rates impact various sectors of the US economy
  • what does that mean for China / India's economy etc.

Some of these are we're interested in a particular industry, e.g. enterprise software / big data infra, are doing technical research in the area, but would like help providing a financial facet to supplement the hypotheses that we're forming.

We'll meet weekly or bi-monthly in a coffee shop in downtown Palo Alto. We expect that this job will take you 5 hrs / week or 5 hrs every 2 weeks, depending on how fast you read and how much econ background you already have. We do expect that you understand more economics/finance than we do. =)

Happy to buy coffee and have a chat to see if we're mutually a good fit.
