Need a “village? “
Welcome to your next new adventure!: living at Greenwave, an intergenerational, non-smoking, cooperative community of kind-hearted kindred spirits.
The “Greenwave” rental community in East Palo Alto is a small cooperative consisting of 3 houses on an acre of land, complete with fruit, flower, and vegetable gardens; patio space; a sauna; off the street parking; 1 cat and 2 friendly dogs (who don't come inside the main house).
We have a spacious, sunlit, upstairs room available.
We are seeking a single adult: a good communicator, emotionally mature, responsible and comfortable with shared living, available for a weekly chore plus joining others by a fireplace sharing stories, laughter and song.
About the room: It is extra large, upstairs in the main house, with shared bath. Pros: windows on 3 sides, separate thermostat, spacious wardrobe closet. Rent includes utilities and internet, off-street parking, and limited storage area. Rent may vary from month to month depending on food costs.
Right now, there are 11 people living here – independent adults ranging from 40s to 70's - with multiple interests: gardening, film club, photography, guitar, hikes, community engagement, building things, dance, yoga, jazz, meditation, contra dancing, bird watching, bee keeping, among others. We are inclusive, left of center in our politics, and respectful of diverse spiritual practices.
In any "intentional community," there are expectations and agreements; in our case, they include: (1) a food club - in which we accommodate shopping for various diets, share the bills, and contribute based on how many days you are here in the month; (2) sharing chores every week, ranging from cleaning to gardening to shopping or facilitating Sunday house meeting; and (3) attending Sunday house dinner, where we eat a meal together, check-in to affirm and support one another, socialize and discuss matters of concern.
We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in living in (our!) community. Ideally, living in community means that we all easily engage with others of varied ages and backgrounds, practice being mindful and compassionate, respectfully share public space, enjoy listening to diverse opinions, and feel comfortable voicing our concerns in a productive, constructive manner. And most importantly, share our joy.
For now, respond by e-mail. Please, tell us why you would be interested in living in community and what you have to offer by way of experience, interests, hobbies, hopes and passions.
Oh, and give us your contact information if you'd like us to respond directly!
