Hello! I am a grad student subletting my room in a Rains apartment for three months in the summer: from mid-June until mid-September. The room is a single bedroom in a four-bedroom apartment in the Rains houses. The other three students are all guys doing PhDs here at Stanford. One is in econ and the other two in computer science.
The apartment is generally pretty clean and not too loud, but we are not obsessive about cleaning or noise—it's pretty laid back. There are two bathrooms, which means you can shower for hours and no one will care (except Mother Earth, of course).
If you live here, you are close to the trail up to the Dish and you are not too far from the California St. shops either. The window looks out onto a parking lot, which is not scenic, but is quieter than being on a courtyard. The apartment is on the second floor.
Unfortunately, because of Stanford's rules, the place is only open to non-undergrad "Stanford affiliates." If you're not sure if you're a Stanford affiliate, you can look at the rules here:

The rent of $1100/month needs to be paid up front for the entire summer along with a security deposit of one month's rent. The rent includes all of the utilities, so you won't need to worry about that.
If this sounds like you're kind of place, let me know and we can set up a time for a tour.
