Breakthrough Institute is a cutting-edge environmental think tank based in Oakland, California, creating a new ecological politics: ecomodernism. Breakthrough's research and publications have altered the way people think about climate change and other environmental challenges. Cofounded in 2003 by two of TIME magazine's "Heroes of the Environment," Breakthrough Institute's mission is to accelerate the transition to a future where all the world's inhabitants can live secure, free, and prosperous lives on an ecologically vibrant planet.
Breakthrough is realizing its mission through original research, its fellowship program, its network of senior scholars, and an annual conference. Breakthrough's ideas have been embraced or praised by everyone from President Barack Obama and Sen. Al Franken on the Left to the National Review and the American Enterprise Institute on the Right. Breakthrough publications and writings appear regularly in theNew York Times, the Washington Post, Associated Press, NPR, and other media.
The Director of Development will report to the President and work closely with Breakthrough's Advisory Board and staff. The Director must embody the organization's core values and mission. This person must be a go-getter and entrepreneurial in spirit, as well as highly organized, and proactive. Private sector experience welcomed.

Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills.
Very strong writing ability.
5-plus years experience in development
Oversee Breakthrough Dialogue and other development events
Develop and execute Breakthrough's annual fundraising plan
Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
Secure financial support from individuals and foundations
Write and track proposals and reports for all foundation fundraising
Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
Write and oversee annual proposals and reports
Oversee creation of annual report
Manage the implementation of data entry and gift processing
Will reflect candidate's salary history
