I am subletting starting June 9, for a 1 or 2-person private room in my cooperative community house near downtown Palo Alto. We are 7 working professionals, mostly Stanford alums, and 2 graduate students, who have a passionate interest in community and sustainable living. We pool our efforts to eat great food together, and keep a clean, functional, beautiful house.
This would be an ideal sublet for a working single or couple who would appreciate being part of an active community for the duration of your stay.
We live in a beautiful house with front porch and large backyard garden, egg-laying chickens, tool-filled workshop. Two story house with 2 bathrooms, 7 bedrooms, one cottage, and basement storage. Washer and dryer on-site, as well as clothes lines. Located in a quiet neighborhood, 4 blocks to Stanford campus and downtown Palo Alto, and short walk to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and downtown farmer's market.
The room available is in the main house. It's a single, large room, suitable for a single or couple.
We eat and socialize together on a regular basis, centered around shared vegetarian dinners served Monday - Thursday. Some of us are more busy than others and not everyone makes it to every dinner. (Anyone can request to have a plate set aside for them for next-day's lunch.)
Rent is about $1100 a month. It varies slightly from month-to-month because that number is all-inclusive: including all utilities and participation in the shared food system (4 dinners per week, plus 24/7 access to bulk ingredients, cleaning supplies, etc.). Deposit is $1000.
We are looking for people who are particularly exciting about being active participants in a community. Being a cooperative, there are three additional mandatory responsibilities for each individual resident: 1) join a 2-3 person team to cook dinner once per week, 2) join a 3-person team to clean the house once per month. 3) join an all-hands work day once per quarter, when the house collaborates on some home improvement on a Saturday or Sunday.
Given the dates of the sublet period, your stay would require 3-4 dinner cooks (depending on move in/out dates), 1 house clean, and most likely no required work day.
Notes: No smoking in the house. There is a gentle, well-trained dog who lives in the house.
If our community approach to living resonates with you, please get in touch. Include some info on what you do with your time and why you're interested in this kind of living situation. We'll schedule a time for you to come over and visit, if you are local, or a video chat otherwise.
