For four years my daughter lived with me and I cared for her through her pregnancies and helped raise her two sons. We co-parented the boys and were deeply bonded as an intergenerational family. After the second birth, my daughter experienced severe postpartum depression which sent her into a psychotic episode. During this time she decided to take the children from our home and was living in a van with them. Unable to care for them, she left them in the care of someone she barely knew, while she tried to get settled.
