The Chickenhive (a small co-op consisting of grad students and post-docs from history, EALC, microbiology and plant biology) has a room opening up March 1 (or sooner). We're looking for a housemate who enjoys living in community, participating in weekly house dinners, and lite urban farming (caring for our chickens and garden). We live in an amazing space in mid-town Palo Alto: small house but a large yard with a vegetable garden, patio, and a fire ring.
The details:
Date available: could open between Feb 15 and March 1, as preferred
Location: 2929 Ramona St, Palo Alto -- we're a 15 minute walk to the CalTrain's Cal Ave stop and about a 15-20 minute bike ride to campus
House size: four rooms, three are singles and one (converted garage) is a double where a couple lives together. Your bedroom would be ~120 sq ft and you'd share a bathroom with two other people.
What's involved: weekly house dinners (we each take turns cooking), about 60-90 minutes of chores each week (gardening, caring for the chickens, taking out the trash, cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms, etc)
Rent comparable to or lower than campus housing.
The house would be a good fit for you if:
You like living in communal settings and are intentionally seeking out a co-op rather than just a room to rent
You're happy to give one or two hours of your time each week to take care of the space you live in, clean up after yourself, etc
You like being social and are into being part of and/or planning house events like potlucks, themed parties, poetry nights, etc (on hold during the pandemic).
