Our co-op is looking for 1-2 new housemate(s) to complete our team - the room is great for a couple! The room is available now, so we are looking to fill it as quickly as possible and hope to have new housemate(s) moving in somewhere around March 1 (but timing is flexible).
The house currently has seven social justice-minded grad students and young professionals living in a beautiful 1904 house in central Palo Alto.
The available bedroom is the largest in the house. It can comfortably fit a couple or one person. The room is currently furnished with a queen-sized bed plus pillows and side tables, sofa, rug, two desks (they fold and fit under the sofa - usually we only have one out at a time), desk chair, bookshelves, lamps, and walk-in closet with storage units. The room also has its own large, private, full bathroom with two sinks and ample storage space; it’s like having your own suite attached to the larger house. The house’s annual lease goes until June 30, so you could move in as a subletter until the end of June, with the possibility to renew the lease starting July 1!
Our house is a 4-minute cycle from the city center and 10-minute cycle from Stanford campus. We are walking distance from University Ave (downtown Palo Alto). We have spacious shared indoor cooking and living common areas including a beautiful porch, second-story deck with a hammock, garage for storage, and garden.
We’ve found that communal living can save you a lot of time and money: the house shares groceries, and we usually cook 4 shared vegetarian / vegan-friendly dinners per week, although recently have been eating together more often. All groceries plus utilities and wifi are covered by monthly $200-250 house dues, and whatever is not used is reimbursed. Parking spot included.
We want to build a community in which all are welcome, and are committed to learning from all of our members. We are currently a collection of grad students, scientists, professionals, musicians, poets, hikers, dancers, readers and travelers. Some of the values we are excited to cultivate are: diversity, hospitality, learning, cleanliness, fairness, and sustainability.
Community is important to us! Despite the pandemic, we keep everyone in the house happy by cooking our way around the globe, growing vegetables, running poetry workshops, camping, yoga sessions, kitchen dance performances, and hiking-adventures on the weekend. At the same time, we give space for productivity and personal time. We are looking for a housemate who is excited to contribute to our communal living, bring new ideas and viewpoints, and stay curious/adventurous as we make the best of COVID times.
Just fill out our form and we would love to invite you over in the virtual world for an e-dinner. We are looking forward to meeting you!
Note on COVID safety: We make decisions together about protocols for keeping ourselves and others safe during the pandemic, and you would be a part of those decisions going forward. We’ve been very careful, and we would need new arrival(s) to quarantine and get a negative test either right before or right after moving in. We also would need to ensure risk levels are low as we have one member of the house who is immunocompromised. Feel free to ask any questions about this! We are extremely careful and have clear protocols to prevent COVID exposure.
