I've a spare 1b1b in a 2b2b condo in Sharon Heights. It's on the upper of two floors.
Location:
The condo's a quick bike ride from west campus, a five-minute walk from a plaza with a Safeway, and a short drive from downtown Menlo Park.
The apartment:
Common spaces include a kitchen, large balcony, living area, and in-unit washer/dryer. There's a storage area downstairs that'd be perfect for bikes. You'll have access to a swimming pool, and a bedroom and bathroom to yourself.
Who else lives here?
I'm a software engineer in my early 30's. I've been working from home since the lock down. I'm unsure when I'll return to the office. I'm introverted and have basic interests - reading, listening to podcasts, playing keyboard, and cooking. I also used to social dance but today's circumstances don't allow for that.
I have a friendly 5-month-old springer spaniel puppy. We've been attending puppy classes and he's starting to be more calm. He's crate trained and not allowed in either of the two bedrooms or bathrooms. I've been spending an inordinate amount of time walking, training, and socializing him.
What are you looking for a in a roommate?
Kind, considerate, communicative.
I wouldn't be the best fit if you're looking for a regular hang out buddy or a built-in social circle, but I do enjoy serendipitous chats, friendship, and - if we really get along and have the time - occasional dinners, etc.
In consideration of each other, I hope we can keep shared spaces clean and clear of belongings when they're not in use. In terms of cleaning, we can set up a regular schedule or discuss hiring someone.
I hope the condo can be a quieter space for relaxing. Smaller social gatherings once or twice per month is fine with some warning beforehand.
I don't have a TV in the living room. You're definitely free to bring one for the bedroom, though.
Rental details:
The base price is $1800/month.
I can offer a discount with proof of renter's insurance.
Reserved parking is $35/month extra through the HOA. There's also ample street parking but I'd recommend doing research into Menlo Park's public parking policies before choosing that route.
Utilities are split in half (Internet is covered by my work and gws is covered by the HOA policy so it's just a matter of paying for electricity).
Lease is month-by-month with a 30-day notice from either party.
You'd be my first tenant so bedroom furnishing is up for discussion.
Other stipulations:
Overnight guests are ok up to 2 nights per week (with warning beforehand) ... The quality of the home changes if an SO stays over too often - it's not just a matter of increasing rent or redistributing utility bills.
When I'm working from home, please take phone calls and VC's from your bedroom.
These rules, and anything else you need, will definitely apply to me as well so that you can also feel more at home in the space : )
