Interventional regenerative medicine and imaging laboratory, the department of Radiology is seeking an
ambitious student to carry out a project in our department. Our department comprises researchers with
diverse backgrounds including medical doctors, biologists, biochemists, and computational biologists
working on translational aspects of interventional regenerative Medicine.

The project

Type 1 diabetes is characterized by the destruction of β cells. However, studies have shown that patients still
have residual β-cell mass and activity years after diagnosis. Hence, developing therapeutic approaches for
maintaining, recovering, or regenerating β cell mass is of paramount importance. In the current project, we
evaluate the protective/regenerative molecular mechanisms of mesenchymal stem cells in animal models
of diabetes. The student will learn to work on the sample and tissue analysis including:
• Phenotyping of immune cells
• Histological analysis
• Immunohistochemistry
• Cytokine measurement using luminix/MSD
