What we are trying to do:
Research has shown that the brain can exert control over the immune system through a pathway known as the inflammatory reflex. Our study is focused on whether we can activate this pathway externally using ultrasound.
Who is in charge:
Dr. Robert Fairchild – Primary Investigator, Clinical Assistant Professor, Rheumatology at Stanford Medicine
Dr. Alexander Sackeim – Co-investigator, Clinical Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine at Stanford Medicine
Who we are looking for:
Individuals of all genders, 18 – 65 years old, who have no major acute or chronic medical conditions or have medical conditions listed in the exclusion criteria. No smoking or vaping.
What are the requirements:
You will be asked to complete 2 ultrasound sessions which will each be 1 hr long. Twenty-four hours before an US session you will have to refrain from consuming alcohol or caffeine. US sessions must be at least 5 days apart. We will be collecting 8 ml of blood before, 2 hours after, and 24 hours after each session. All visits must occur M-Thurs from 8a-10a at the CTRU, 800 Welch Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94304. You must return to the CTRU for each blood draw.
What you get: $75/US session
