Would love to hire a current Stanford undergrad or grad student, who can relate to my fourth grader's cognitive profile and also has personal experience with math competitions.
Per recent WISC-V results, he has an exceptional aptitude in quantitative reasoning (>99.9th percentile, using extended norms since he "ceilinged out" in subtests like Arithmetic) but he also has a severe graphomotor deficit ("2e"). We're starting occupational therapy to address the handwriting challenges.
Our son was selected for his school's MOEMS Level E Math Olympiad team, which we thought would be a great fit. But he still just wants to just trial-and-error the math "in his head" (and he can do a surprising amount of it that way!) He really seems to be struggling to understand the need to leverage math competition strategies that require some "slowing down" and handwriting, such as using a table or creating a drawing.
We think a short term tutor (10-12 sessions?) who can relate to his 2e mind - and has personal experience with math competitions - could be a great unlock for him. We would prefer in-person over virtual; we can meet at our home in Menlo Park or on campus.
