Hi! I am a researcher at Stanford and a non-native English speaker (Mandarin is my first language). Over the past few years I have used English extensively in my work, but I would like to continue improving my natural conversational English and communication style.

I’m looking for a native English speaker for in-person conversation practice once a week on the Stanford campus. Knowing Mandarin is a plus, but not required.

The goal is mainly to practice natural conversation — discussing everyday topics, understanding what’s going on in the U.S. (news, culture, social topics), and occasionally practicing academic discussions. I’m somewhat introverted, so I’d especially appreciate someone who is outgoing, confident, and enjoys conversation.

This can be very casual and low effort — for example, we could simply meet at a campus dining hall or café and chat. I’m easygoing, flexible with scheduling, and genuinely motivated to improve, so I appreciate any guidance or feedback.
