We’re looking for a Stanford undergraduate or graduate student with a background in math competitions to work with our 4th-grade son — a bright, highly curious “twice-exceptional” (2e) learner.
He has extraordinary quantitative reasoning ability (>99.9th percentile) and can solve surprisingly complex problems mentally. He was recently selected for his school’s MOEMS Level E Math Olympiad team.
However, like many advanced young thinkers, he tends to rely on trial-and-error in his head and is still learning how to slow down and use structured strategies (e.g., writing, diagrams, tables) that are key for competition success.
He also has a graphomotor (handwriting) challenge, so we’re especially looking for someone who can relate to non-linear thinkers and help him bridge strong intuition with more organized problem-solving approaches.
This is a short-term opportunity (10–12 sessions) where you can have a real impact — helping a gifted student unlock new ways of thinking while keeping math engaging and confidence-building.
Details:
• Location: In-person preferred (Menlo Park or Stanford campus)
• Flexible
• $75 - $150, depending on qualifications and references
We’d love to find someone patient, thoughtful, and excited about mentoring a unique learner.
