Hi there - I am an Adjunct Prof in the Doerr School, and we are looking for a math tutor for our 14 year old headed in to HS next year. We'd like help making sure his Algebra 1 skills are shored up before going in to Geometry next year.
We'd like to do some Algebra and Geometry prep over the summer using AoPS (he's enrolled in their two-week Geometry course in June).
We're looking for someone who knows AoPS well — ideally AMC/competition math background — and can meet once a week in Menlo Park to go through his work, push his thinking, and help him learn how to sit with hard problems rather than just get answers. Socratic, not lecture-style.
He is motivated to do this and wants to do well. We (as his parents) want to help him with this goal, but are not the right ones to be tutors ourselves.
45–60 min per week, June through August. Competitive pay.
If you were the kid who actually enjoyed math competitions and can explain your reasoning clearly, we'd love to hear from you!
