My roommate AJ and I have a room for rent in a newly-remodeled, clean, modern house in EPA. $1000/mo. (Utilities are not included, but run around $75 per month including internet.)
It's got wood floors, new fixtures and appliances, and a washer/dryer. It's also close to 101 and one block from the bay trail, which is a great place to bike/walk/bird watch.

The room itself is 10 x 12 and has a window. There's also a closet in the spare room you can use, and tons of storage space in the garage.

There's also a yard (I grew tomatoes in boxes last year... i.e. you're welcome to have a garden if you like), and there's plenty of parking.

AJ and I also have a rotating chores system. Each week or so, each roommate does one of three chores: kitchen and trash, common area vacuum
and dust, or bathroom. Keeping things clean and tidy is a priority for us, so that needs to be something that comes naturally to you too.

We're also responsible for maintaining the yard, so you'll need to help out with pulling weeds, mowing, raking from time to time.

We're both technologists, but have lots of other interests too. I'm into cycling, music, and cooking (pescetarian), and AJ's a board gamer who also spends a lot of
time hiking, playing volley ball, hanging out with his girlfriend, etc. We have board game nights from time to time, and often cook/eat meals
together.
