Opening for a long term subletter in an unfurnished room in a kosher[ish] furnished 5Br/3.5Bth just off of Oregon and Alma, beginning in mid-September (flexible between the 15th and the 21st). Rent is $1110, in addition to utilities and internet that run about $60 per person depending on the season/heater use.
About the room: The room fits a queen bed and a bureau comfortably, and in its previous iteration it fit a twin bed and a large desk. It has a built in closet and storage space, and looks out on some lilies on the side of the house. You’d share a full bathroom with one of the roommates (we have a sink per person!).
About the house: We are walking distance to the California Ave Caltrain (about 20 min), and Midtown Shopping Center. There is a washer and dryer in our spacious garage, with fruit trees and a garden in our backyard.
About the kosher: We keep a kosher kitchen, with all that entails. (Two sets of dishes for meat and dairy, two sponges, etc.) The meat dishes are kept more strictly (hechsher only) than the dairy (vegetarian). Since not everyone in the house keeps kosher, we have a non-kosher microwave and fridge in the garage and are cool with nonkosher food outside the kitchen. If you have any questions, please ask. A couple previous roommates new to kashrut weren't ready for the extra effort necessary, so please confirm in your email to us that this sounds like it would work for you.
About the roommates: we are two girls and two guys-- one grad student, two tech employees, and one in education policy research. The house has been a fairly communal/social space, but of the dinner party and game night kind, not the rager kind. We are often up until 10/11 on a weekday, 12/1 on a weekend hanging out together after work, playing Hanabi or watching some Game of Thrones or Orphan Black, but we also have our separate social circles. We’re considerate of each other’s needs and feelings, ask how each other’s days went, and spend on average more time in the common space than in our own rooms.
Send over an email if you think you could be a good fit, and tell us a little about yourself-- what you’re up to in the area, what you’re looking for in a living situation, the hours you keep, and of course any questions we can answer for you.
We'll be having roommate interviews this Monday, 9/7, in the evening, so also do let us know if you'd be available to come by that night. Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you!
