I've got a room opening up in my Mountain View apartment. It's a two-bed, two-bath apartment near the San Antonio shopping center (and CalTrain stop), and your share of the rent would be $1,250/month. I am a 32-year-old postdoc in the Stanford English department.

Other details:

-You'd ideally move in ASAP (rent prorated of course).

-Utilities aren't included in the rent; your share would usually be around $100/month, sometimes less. That includes Internet.

-The commute to the Stanford campus is about 5 miles; I usually bike, and it takes 30-40 minutes depending on lights and my wakefulness. The place is also very close to Google and a decent commute for anywhere between Redwood City and San Jose.

-The place falls within the jurisdiction of recent Mountain View rent control laws, so future rent increases are minimal.

-The lease is month-to-month; you could just pay your share to me until we get you added to the lease (within, I imagine, 1-2 months).

-Unfortunately, no pets allowed

-Couples welcome, if you don't mind having a roommate. (Splitting the rent among three people is nice.)

-There is some furniture (bed, mattress, dresser) that you could use if you want; otherwise I'll get rid of it for you.

-It exists and is an actual apartment rather than some rich person's shed, which is a major plus in this area.
