Hi everyone!
I’m moving to the Bay Area in November to join Stanford as a final-year postdoctoral researcher at the Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI), and I’m looking for a room in a shared house/apartment.
What I’m looking for:
Location:
House/apartment
I’m reasonably tidy and like having a well-organised home. I’d prefer a shared approach to cleaning and house management rather than a very rigid set of rules—or, on the other hand, a completely laissez-faire situation. I don’t smoke and drink, if not quite lightly and occasionally. Ideally, I’d live with non-smokers, or with smokers who are considerate about keeping smoking separate from shared spaces.
I also have allergies, so I’d prefer a pet-free home depending on the animal and, particularly, what they eat.
About the kind of housemate/s I’m looking for:
I’ve lived in several shared houses as well as alone in a studio, so I’m comfortable with both communal and independent living. I’m looking for a friendly, open-minded household where people can enjoy some social life together while also having their own space. I’d be very happy with occasional shared dinners, movie nights, going out, or spontaneously doing something together, but I’m not looking for a party house.
I also like the idea of having friends over occasionally, including overnight guests, while being considerate of the people I live with. For the same reason, I appreciate housemates who are comfortable discussing practical things about the house openly and calmly, without making everything overly formal or rigid.
Ideally, I’d live with people roughly in the 28-38 age range, although compatibility is more important than age.
A little about me:
I’m 34 and originally from Italy. I’m a STEM scientist, but my interests go well beyond science.
I’m a fairly enthusiastic cook. Classic Italian cooking is my default, but I also love exploring other cuisines and learning from other people. I enjoy managing food and groceries and would be very happy to share that aspect of household life. I’m not vegetarian, but I’m quite conscious about meat and fish consumption and generally try to be responsible about it.
Outside work, I’m interested in arts (drawing and painting), literature (especially novels and poetry, both reading and writing), music (live and electronic music, and occasionally jamming), theatre and cinema. I'd probably go to SF for gigs and cultural events from time to time.
I also enjoy sports, mostly with a playful rather than competitive attitude. I’ve done quite a few over the years; more recently I’ve been playing volleyball, roller skating, and doing some light boxing and callisthenics. I have experience sailing and windsurfing, and I’d love to get back into those, and perhaps try surfing, while I’m in the Bay Area.
I’m also very much an outdoors person and enjoy hiking, camping, and exploring mountains and forests, so I expect to spend quite a bit of time discovering the area around the Bay.
I’m generally sociable, make friends easily and care about the people around me, while also appreciating personal space and quiet time. My usual schedule is fairly regular: I tend to wake up around 7–7:30 and work roughly 8:30–17:30.
Please feel free to reach out!
Thanks!
