Description

TL; DR: Earn $820 by signing up for a checking account with Stanford Federal Credit Union using my referral code F6D0A9X

The breakdown:

  • $500 from SFCU for setting up $2500/month in direct deposit and spending $1000/month for three months in a row (see screenshot of offer)
  • $120 from SFCU for various other account setup tasks
  • $200 from me (via Venmo or Zelle) if you successfully get the $500 bonus while using my referral code - F6D0A9X

You can sign up for a SFCU checking account online at https://www.sfcu.org/new-member/. They're nice accounts with a lot of perks! There are no monthly fees.

You can set up an account by meeting with an in-person banker at the SFCU branch in the upstairs of Tresidder, or the branch office by grad student housing.

How on earth does this all work out:

  • SFCU makes money by having customers who use their banking services
  • SFCU wants more customers, so they incentivize you to use their banking services with a sign-up bonus (the $620)
  • SFCU really really wants more customers, so they offer referral bonuses for getting your friends to sign up to use SFCU products. I, personally, want that referral bonus, and I am happy to split it with you! If you successfully sign up using my referral code, I'll Venmo you $200. We both win!

It will take you some patience to set up the account and use it enough to get the bonus. In my experience, it takes ~5 hours over ~3 months to get the sign-up bonus, which is a pretty good hourly rate.
