This year we will try a new format for two meetings this quarter. We will hold a “lab” which will focus on the theme of loss, broadly construed. This deliberately broad theme invites interdisciplinary conversations across Medicine, the Arts, and the Humanities and humanistic Social Sciences. Loss can often mean the loss of a loved one or of one’s own life, or the loss of physical autonomy and well being from illness. Loss shapes clinicians as well as patients, though it does so in different ways. And loss can lead to growth in unexpected ways. All are welcome – please join us in-person!
RSVP HERE For Medical Humanities Workshop event
Our format is to hear 3-5 very short reflections (“lightning talks”) at the beginning of each meeting, and then open the floor to discussion. As usual, we invite people to participate from across the fields of Medical Humanities at Stanford, at all different levels of study, from undergraduates and graduate students to faculty and clinicians.
For this first Loss Lab, we will hear short reflections from Professor Tanya Luhrmann (Anthropology), Professor Laura Wittman (French and Italian), and graduate students Clayton Jarrard (Anthropology), Rachael Healy (Anthropology), and Aurora Alagni (Italian Studies).
Please note that this event is not hybrid and will be in-person only. Food will be provided, and we expect the conversation to be interesting!
