Many applications in computational geophysics require modeling seismic wave propagation across a set of closely related subsurface models. In such cases, it is often preferable to recompute wavefields locally, only in regions of change, rather than across the full model. Immersive boundary conditions make this possible: they capture the full interaction between two domains while requiring recomputation only within the domain that changes. The same methodology also enables immersing a physical experiment inside a virtual numerical simulation. At ETH Zurich's Centre for Immersive Wave Experimentation, we are building a laboratory to explore cloaking, holography, 3D time-reversal, and low-frequency acoustic experiments. I will present the underlying methodology, instrumentation advances, and milestone experiments toward this facility.
